My name is S. Michael. I spent close to thirty years in education. Almost 25 of those were in New York City public schools. The scope of my teaching was not just in front of my own classroom, but mentoring new teachers and supervising student teachers as they found their footing in this forever changing profession. I was where you are right now. I was in the room. Every year. Through every kind of class, every kind of kid, and every kind of Tuesday that tested what I was made of. I never gave up. I just continued perfecting my craft. 
 
I recently retired. And in nearly three decades, I watched hundreds of teachers walk into this profession — some fresh out of their program, some mid-career and exhausted, some fighting for tenure with everything they had. I watched the same problems repeat themselves, year after year, teacher after teacher. Not because teachers weren’t capable. Because nobody ever handed them a real manual.
Why This Library Exists
Every new teacher gets handed a stack of textbooks. Dense theory. Research citations. Chapters that circle an idea for forty pages before telling you what to actually do on Monday morning. I read them too — plenty of them, over plenty of years. Most of them were written by people who hadn’t stood in front of thirty kids in a long time, if ever. I am here to tell you, I was there.
 
What teachers actually need in the moment isn’t theory. It’s the exact thing to say to the parent across the conference table. It’s the seating chart that keeps a hard class manageable. It’s the script for the IEP meeting, the observation walkthrough, the tenure portfolio, the comment on a report card that says what it needs to say without saying too much.
 
So…I built it myself. The Teacher’s Survival Library is everything I wish someone had handed me on my first day — and everything I ended up teaching, one mentee at a time, for almost thirty years. No padding. No filler. No forever pages in a chapter to get to one usable idea. Just what works, written by someone who has actually done the job.
 
Who This Is For
This library is built for three teachers, because I taught alongside all three for most of my career:
The brand-new teacher, standing in an empty classroom in early September with a roster and no idea what Monday actually looks like. 
 
The teacher fighting for tenure, trying to prove — on paper and in the room — that they belong here. 

The seasoned teacher, twelve or twenty years in, who knows the job cold but is tired of reinventing the wheel every time the ground shifts under them.
 
Every book in this library was written for one of those three people. Often, it was written for all three at once.
What Makes It Different
Every guide in The Teacher’s Survival Library is short enough to read in an evening and useful enough to keep on your desk all year. No chapter exists just to hit a word count. If it’s in the book, it’s because it solves a real problem, I watched real teachers face — including, more than a few times, myself. Teaching isn’t  a job. It’s a CRAFT that continues to evolve.
